Industry

CIT School of Business is a key stakeholder within the Cork and Munster region with respect to the development of and support for industry. This is reflected through a range of activities that includes work placement, tailored programmes, specialist advice, support for professional bodies as well as a two-way dialogue between the classroom and industry which is the hallmark of our educational approach.  Some of the key features include:

  • Work Placement is a key element of many of our programmes at Masters and Undergrad level. We believe that in order to produce a rounded student the experience of immersion in a working environment is very useful. Students gain credit for their work as well as having a solid opportunity to recognise and development their work-based skills. Companies that employ our placement students include EMC, Apple, Musgrave's, Newsweaver and HSE…..
  • Live Cases – CIT School of Business has worked successfully with a number of companies to ensure that students are exposed to real-world problems throughout their degree. Companies work with us to identify challenges that students analyse and propose solutions to. These solutions are often implemented by the companies involved who benefit from the insight gained from “fresh eyes” exploring their challenge. Companies that employ our placement  students include EMC, Apple, Musgrave's, Newsweaver, Skechers and the HSE to name a few.
  • Up-skilling and Staff Development – We are at the heart of the professional business community. This is recognised in the fact that CIT School of Business is the leading provider of professional accounting education within Munster. Our part-time and executive offerings have been the cornerstone of the professional development of many businesses in recent times. In areas such as HR, Accounting, Sales Management and other areas we are the first port of call for individuals looking to enhance their skills and abilities through educational opportunities.
  • CIT School of Business has developed strong links with key industry groups including Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD)The Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII)The Sales Institute of Ireland (SII) as well as with the professional accountancy bodies such as ACCA, Chartered Accountants IrelandCIMA, Accounting Technicians Ireland and CPA. These help provide work-oriented qualifications and industry networking opportunities that are so critical to people at various points in their careers.
  • Ireland’s leading business innovation hub The Rubicon Centre is located on campus in the Cork Institute of Technology. Home to 57 knowledge based start-up companies, the Centre is jointly financed by CIT & Enterprise Ireland. Clients based at the Rubicon are at different stages of development, from concept stage to completing their first customer orders and many are already trading on the International Market. CIT School of Business supports start-ups based in the Rubicon with practical guidance from many of our lecturers who are Subject Matter Experts. These links also enhance the opportunities for our students – some of whom engage with the companies and their ideas as a means to develop their own entrepreneurial skills.
  • Entrepreneurship is at the heart of the School of Business. The Hincks Centre of Entrepreneurship Excellence www.cit.ie/hincks  is testament to this as a purpose developed focal point for the development of Entrepreneurship Excellence within the region and nationally. Led by Dr. Breda Kenny, a successful entrepreneur and academic, the centre endeavours to provide leadership on the development and skilling of entrepreneurs and to act as a rallying point for stakeholder engagement.

Cork is a centre of business excellence with a large industry base and an active, engaged workforce. CIT School of Business acts as a key stakeholder within this environment by facilitating knowledge exchange and by offering thought leadership in a practical manner.
