Undergraduate Degree Programmes with Placement Embedded

Undergraduate Placement Programme Criteria

  • Placements commence from January every year in line with Semester 2 and comprise 30 credits for the full semester's work.
  • Placements are mapped onto the Semester's 15 weeks duration. Students can commence their 15 weeks from the first week of January. 
  • Students are required to engage with the host organisation for a minimum 35 hours per week for the 15 week placement.
  • Students are assessed across a variety of assessments focusing on career preparation, soft skills development, application of discipline-specific knowledge and reflective practices.

Self-Seeking Placement

Students should consider their own network and contacts, particularly when students wish to gain experience in a specific sector or location. If you have secured your own placement independently, please inform your Placement Manager who will liaise with your contact to check the vialibity of the position to ensure that it complies with MTU Placement criteria. The position is not approved until your Placement Manager confirms as such with you. 

Placement Preparation Tips

  • Be organised. Securing placement begins every year from the end of August with a lot of organisations seeking to secure their placement students within the first weeks of Semester 1. You can increase your success of securing your placement if you come prepared with a completed, up-to-date CV and interview preparation. 
  • Contact the MTU Careers Office for advice on your CV and interview preparation.
